With acclaimed director Chris Nolan’s trademark clandestine ways, receiving any sort of material for any of his upcoming movies is usually a pretty big deal. That goes double for Nolan’s beyond intriguing latest, Interstellar, which not only looks be a magnanimous return to form for the filmmaker after the partially disappointing, plot hole laden The Dark Knight Rises, but with its mix of Cosmos and cinematic calamity appears to be his most ambitious work yet.

That’s certainly a sentiment echoed by star Matthew McConaughey, who spoke to Empire about the daunting scale of the film:

“This is the grandest adventure I think any of us will ever see on film… This is the biggest film I’ve ever been a part of. This is one of the biggest films anyone’s ever been a part of.”

Co-star Anne Hathaway concurs with this assessment, adding that despite the Carl Sagan-esque hints we’ve seen, this is a movie that will appear to more than just the science geeks:

“I am so excited for the world to receive this film, because there’s going to be a new conversation I believe will happen because of it.”

“It’s not a dry, science-based film. It has a pulse. It’s got blood in its veins.”

But what about that new material I spoke of when I started this story? That comes in the form of these 7 new stills from the film, that give us not only a behind the scenes peek at the film’s set and production, but also another look at the alien landscapes glimpsed in the trailers; McConaughey, Hathaway and David Gyasi’s characters making some kind of discovery, and Jessica Chastain and a grizzly looking Casey Affleck doing some pondering.

We’ll finally get a proper look at the secretive Interstellar in just over a month when it opens everywhere on November 7, 2014.
