Godzilla: Monster Planet gets a wild synopsis and new concept art

Godzilla has been the undisputed king of the Kaijus for decades now. Dozens of films, reboots and comic books have created not just a legend, but an icon. One area where Godzilla hasn’t reigned supreme however? Anime. It’s weird when you think about it, but Godzilla has never ever had an Anime movie featuring the infamous boss-level walking extinction event.

Until now that is. The first such film releases later this year, called Godzilla: Monster Planet. A title that the project is living up to with a premise that sounds far wilder than anything the silver screen live-action adaptations could ever hope to produce. Here’s a rough translation of what the November flick has in store for Kaiju groupies, and some concept art, via SlashFilm:

The last summer of the 20th century. On that day, the human race realized that they were not the only ruler of the planet earth.

The emergence of gigantic monsters “kaiju” and the ultimate creation that can even destroy the kaijus, Godzilla. After half-century of the war against the kaijus, the human race repeatedly defeated and decided to escape from the Earth. Then finally in the year 2048, only people who were chosen by the artificial intelligence under the control of the central government went on board the interstellar immigrant ship Aratrum and left for the “Cetus: Planet Tau E”, 11.9 light years away from the earth.

But the environmental condition difference between the earth and Tau E, which took 20 years to reach, was far exceeded the predicted value, and there was no way to survive for the human race.

Or as SlashFilm explained, it took slightly longer than twenty years for protagonist Haruo and the rest of humanity to return to Earth to face Godzilla and the rest of the kaiju. 20 000 years actually, leaving the planet to become a wild habitat where Godzilla rules as the dominant alpha life-form on the planet. That sounds awesome. Godzilla: Monster Planet is out this November in case you happen to be in Japan for the debut, while Netflix has inked a deal to stream the flick a little bit later.
