Listen, Marvel needs to think big after Phase 3 ends with a pair of Avenger movies. Captain America, Iron Man and Thor will most likely make way for some fresh new blood and I have just the next big franchise in mind: Rocket Racoon and Baby Groot. No seriously, hear me out. Thanks to advances in modern day CGI, you don’t have to worry about your actors showing their age or risking life and limb in a glorious stunt-heavy scene.

Trust me on this, because Baby Groot is going to be a license to print money. At least that’s the feeling that I’m getting from this latest trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Check it out:

Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Tommy Flanagan, Laura Haddock and Kurt Russell. Kevin Feige is producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Jonathan Schwartz, Victoria Alonso, Nik Korda and Stan Lee are the executive producers.

The screenplay is by James Gunn. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” blasts into US theaters on May 5, 2017.

Pretty cool right? It’s pretty much everything I want in a GOTG sequel: The same cast, the same style of humour and another kickass soundtrack done in a manner that makes the film feel like it really is building on what came before it. Also, Baby Groot and Rocket. I’m telling you, we need a road trip movie with these two that ends with them assaulting Howard the Duck. It would be perfect.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is out on May 5 and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel’s voice, Kurt Russell, Karen Gillian, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff and Glenn Close. And if you’re wondering who that strangely empathic alien is at the end? That’s Mantis yo!
