It would seem that some English lessons are in order this morning. And everybody take notes, there may be a pop quiz later.

Extended: past participle, past tense of ex·tend

  1. Expand in scope, effect or meaning.

Extensive:

  1. Large in amount or scale.
You got that? Good, now lets get to the superheroic ass kicking and people rescuing, which this EXTENDED Superbowl TV spot certainly contains a lot of.

Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Despite the hilarity of the intro to this trailer, the content itself is still playing it surprisingly serious in tone. We keep hearing that there’s quite a bit of comedy in the film, but so far we’ve actually seen just about none of it. Personally, I wouldn’t have it any other way, as Tony characteristic snark will definitely lose some zest if we keep hearing the punchlines over and over again before we ever set foot in a cinema.

Other than that though, there are some great pure superhero moments in this trailer, culminating of course in the mid-air rescue attempt. And on top of that, we have Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin doing his best impersonation of an actor in porno for blind people.
