purge

In a year that has seen fierce competition between ex-members of Sesame Street candidates like Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton the idea of a purge, but at government level, is one that I can get my heart beating to. I really enjoyed the first Purge, Ethan Hawke did a good job and it lay the foundation for the second, more Mad Max-like sequel. The Purge: Anarchy was bigger, focused more on the moral repercussions of the Purge and also starred the badass Frank Grillo as Sergeant Leo Barnes! What’s not to like?

This time round The Purge: Election Year will see Sergeant Leo Barnes protect the only U.S. Senator that is opposing the Purge and actually wants to cancel it, just because her family was murdered in front of her during one of the purgings. Oh bo ho! After an initial betrayal in the White House (Americans LOVE watching that place get beat up) U.S. Senator (Elizabeth Mitchell) and her trusty bodyguard heard out into the madness of the night with the hounds of hell baying at their feet. Have a watch of this trailer and tell me you aren’t intrigued:

WARNING: As are a want of most trailers these days this looks basically like a quick breakdown of each ‘chapter’ of the movie. Why do you do this to us?!

Expanding the universe introduced in the hit franchise that electrified the culture and earned $200 million at the worldwide box office, Universal Pictures’ The Purge: Election Year reveals the next terrifying chapter that occurs over 12 hours of annual lawlessness sanctioned by the New Founders of America to keep this country great.

It’s been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn…or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.

Looks awesome! I do find it odd that with all those lunatics running around there isn’t one wearing a dodgy wig…

Expect The Purge: Election year to land 4 July.
