Jeremy Renner is BOURNE to be wild in these new 5 clips

While good ol’ James Bond may be hogging some of the lime-light lately with his cars and his girls, there is another espionage franchise that’s about to be (pardon the pun) reborn. Picking up the badassery from where Matt Damon left off, Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross is another Treadstone agent on the run from shadowy government agencies.

And now thanks to Comingsoon.net, we have a look at 5 new clips from the film that shows us just how well he stacks up to his predecessor.

While these clips are not exactly spoilers, as they contain no major plot details that you haven’t already seen in the trailers, they do run the full gambit by giving us insight into Cross’ relationship with Edward Norton’s Byer and Rachel Weisz’s Marta, as well as showing us 3 pretty good looks at action sequences we see snippets of in the trailer.

What I find most interesting is the way Tony Gilroy (who up until now has just been the series’ writer) directs the hand-to-hand action scenes, which was always the Bourne series’ trademark visual. It’s certainly not as frenetic as Paul Greengrass’ epileptic shaky cam, but the use of very close-up cuts during during the action also makes it a little hard to follow, which sort of goes against Gilroy’s earlier claims that the shaky cam approach was out for this latest chapter in the story.

Well, I say new chapter, because while it has been said that this film will be spinning out of the events of the last Matt Damon driven Bourne film, this won’t be a straight sequel either as some of it will be running in parallel with the previous film’s story. So a parallequel? Yeah, I’m going with that.

Synopsis:

Gilroy, the narrative architect behind the “Bourne” film series, takes the helm in the new chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office. The writer/director expands the “Bourne” universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.
