JK Simmons finishes work on Zack Snyder’s “fun” Justice League

I’ve been massively forgiving of Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice since it hit Blu-Ray. The ultimate cut which you can’t have is a much better movie, a sombre and dark take on a universe where grim and gritty is served for breakfast every morning. Problem is, is that moviegoers can’t handle that much depression being dispensed via bat-themed vigilante fists.

And apparently Warner Bros. is well aware of this, as they play the catch-up game to Disney and Marvel’s wildly popular shared universe of films. Their solution? Making a movie that isn’t a complete prescription for Prozac tablets. Cue Justice League, which is already looking a lot lighter in tone because I learnt absolutely nothing from the Suicide Squad trailer debacle.

It’s a movie which teams DC Comic’s greatest heroes up, alongside none other than J Jonah Simmons. Who presumably tells Kent that he needs photos of Superman. No wait, that’s a lie but dammit I can dream man. Instead, veteran actor JK Simmons is playing Batman ally Jim Gordon, the Gotham City police commissioner who helps the Bat of Gotham in his war on crime.

Simmons recently wrapped up his scenes on that flick, as he explained to Entertainment Tonight:

My part is done. They are filming that for basically most of 2016, so some of the superheroes are still at work in jolly old London, but I’m back home with my family.

But the big takeaway here? That filming Justice League was a blast apparently, as director Zack Snyder kept his cast happy throughout the shoot:

Yeah, mostly with Ben. In this first installment of the Justice League, Commissioner Gordon is not a particularly sizable part. We just kind of introduce him and see a little bit of his interactions with Batman — and with most of the Justice League. That was a really fun set. Zack [Snyder] runs sort of a big, happy family and it’s obviously, in many ways, a very different work environment when you’re working on a big, giant movie like that than a relatively small movie like The Meddler. But at the end of the day, the director is the one who sets the tone.

And one of the things that Zack and Lorene [Scafaria] have in common is they’re just nice, smart, competent, fun people that you don’t mind spending a 12-hour day with.

Look, I’m taking the Ozmeister’s comments with a pinch of salt. No actor trashes a movie before its out. But the idea of a cast who are getting on well behind the scenes has me hoping that we’ll see some real chemistry between demigods and dark knights. It’s a key element in any movie, and a facet of these films that can provide the much-needed lighter tone between darker and heavier scenes before Justice League arrives next year on November 4.

Also, until today I kept confusing the actor for the lead singer of Jamiroquai.

  1. “The ultimate cut which you can’t have” – I have it yay! Much better than the theatrical release. You can get it off Amazon UK, region free, delivered to South Africa *from my experience lol*.
