Looks like yet another film franchise is being pulled from beyond the grave. Joe Carnahan is now on board to direct a new version of the original 1974 film that starred Charles Bronson, which also saw four more sequels produced in the following twenty years.

The original film saw Charles Bronson in the role of Paul Kersey, a liberal architect who quickly becomes a gun-toting vigilante after his wife and daughter are attacked. Vowing revenge on the criminals of his city, Bronson takes the street, sans a T-shirt with a skull symbol on it and kills any perp that he can find.

A controversial film at the time, the following sequels that were belched out did nothing to improve upon the success of the original, but it has been seen as responsible for setting off a cinema trend that saw more and more violent films emerge.

The final film, Death Wish V: The Face of Death effectively killed the series in in 1994.

Sylvester Stallone originally planned to reboot the franchise back in 2007, but obviously saw something better in grabbing every action movie star alive for The Expendables instead.

Carnahan will be writing the script for the film as well, but a concrete release date is still a tricky subject right now, as his schedule is quite full for the next few months.

Still, at least Bronson never made that other Death Wish film;

    So given Carnahan’s overwhelmingly positive experience with Neeson on The Grey, can we expect the two of them to team up for this remake.

    With Liam Neeson playing an angry father out to mete justice on the men guilty of perpetrating brute savagery on his wife and daughter. Because what they didn’t know was that this was one father that came with a very particular set of skills; skills he has have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for people… oh wait
