Thinking back on Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s rise, especially with his HitRecordJoe project, it made perfect sense that he would write and direct his own movie. And you know what makes even more sense if you’re going to write and direct your own movie where you’re the star? Making your character a sex-addict with Scarlett Johansson as your girlfriend.

Oh, JGL, you sly devil, you. We’re onto you, much like ol’ Scar-Jo is onto your porn watching ways in this second trailer for Don Jon.

Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Don Jon has been racking up the praise all over the festival circuit for its infectiously fun tone, charming performances and Gordon-Levitt’s skill behind the camera, so I can’t wait to see it when it finally releases. Even if it is just to see Tony Danza starring in something again.

There’s currently no local release date, but US cinemas will be feeling the good vibrations from September 27, 2013.
