McG is headed for some RUIN

Back in March, I featured an animated short film from Student Academy Award winning director Wes Ball, titled Ruin. Set in a gorgeously rendered post-apocalyptic future, and filled with crazy action, the short film went viral in a matter of hours.

It seemed like only a matter of time before Hollywood came calling, and now that call has arrived in the form of vowel-less filmmaker, McG.

The Terminator: Salvation and Charlie’s Angels director has been chosen to produce a feature length adaption of the the film for Twentieth Century Fox with Ball himself moving up to the big leagues to not only direct, but also to co-write the script T.S. Nowlin, who will also pen the Rupert Wyatt directed Charlize Theron sci-fi actioner Agent 13.

THR reports that Fox is viewing this film as the start of a new franchise, which is some incredible foresight and vision seeing as the short film is essentially just one 8-minute long chase sequence. There is a reported six figure deal being worked out for this, which should be a very nice change of pace for Ball who spent the 2 years he was working on the short doing small animation jobs for HBO and various Blu Ray featurettes.

And since I know some of you would have forgotten the film by now, and won’t know what the fuss is about, here’s the video again for your viewing pleasure.
