Meet the whole class in these new character posters and images for MONSTERS UNIVERSITY

1 min read

With the exception of the Toy Story franchise, Pixar has only ever done one sequel, Cars 2, but that automobile ended up backfiring and smoking up the place. Now the acclaimed animation house is back in with their second attempt at a follow-up movie, and hoping they can avoid the same fate by swapping the “se” for a “pre”, with prequel Monsters University. And you can consider today orientation day as we get to meet the new class courtesy of 8 new character posters, as well everybody’s student and faculty ID cards.

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

I’ll be honest, the first trailers showing off Mike, Sully and friend’s collegiate adventures never really did it for me, however you can’t deny the great character designs on display. While it’s clear that they were heavily inspired by Darryn for the design of Sully, the rest are all pretty original. Monsters University features the vocal talents  of Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Dave Foley, Julia Sweeney, Joel Murray and Peter Sohn, and will be out in 2D and 3D on June 21, 2013.

My name is Maximus Decimus Kervynius, commander of the Armies of the Northern Suburbs, General of the Felix the Cat Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Jack Kirby. Father to a small highly strung dog, husband to an awesome wife. And I will have my lemon meringue pie, in this life or the next.
