Continuing with our scary movie theme for October, let’s talk about the movies that utterly failed to scare you. Maybe they tried too hard, maybe the premise was just too ridiculous to follow, or maybe they were just a hot mess.

For me, this was definitely House of Wax. Seriously, what the heck was going on with that? Besides for the infamous Paris Hilton death scene, which was just hilarious and almost made it worthwhile, House of Wax was badly acted and badly directed, with terrible visual effects and a laughable premise. The only thing that scared me was the fact that I paid to watch it in the first place. On the other hand, I couldn’t sleep properly after watching Saw, but friends of mine found it downright boring.

So there you are with the lights dimmed and popcorn in hand, looking for something to scare you into an adrenalin high… and all you get is a snore-fest. Let us know: what scary movie disappointed you the most?

Sho, there are so many I can’t count…The ending of Insidious. That was a let down for me.

99.99999% of the time, jump scares just do not work on me. Most directors have certain tells before they’re about to do a jump scare – the framing, the music etc – and I spot them too easily to be surprised by the “scare” that follows.

And never was this more apparent than when I went to see The Grudge with my wife, my brother and his girlfriend. While my wife literally shut her eyes and covered her ears coz she couldn’t take it anymore, and my bro’s gf was complaining about freaking heart palpitations from all the jumps, I was bored out of my skull and nearly dozed off several times.

What about Woman in Black? One scene got me, hand on window. Otherwise I am usually like you, too easy to read the tells of when the scare is coming. Only movie that sometimes got me was the paranormal activity (having to look so damn close at the same scene to see if anything has changed).
