Another Monday means its time to find out who scored big at the box office this week, as the latest box office results have just come in. There’s been a few debuts over the American weekend as well, so let’s take a look at who ruled supreme over the last week.
At number one, the Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum buddy cop film, 21 Jump Street, pulled in a healthy $35 million, thanks to its strategic marketing and the fact that it is an apparently worthwhile film, dethroning The Lorax which slipped into second place with a $22.8 million addition to its coffers.
John Carter of Mars hung in, slipping to third place, bringing in another $13.5 million to its US box office receipts while Project X stayed in a fourth place hungover with $4 million, leaving Eddie Murphy speechless with his latest film, A thousand words, that earned $3.7 million in its fifth place debut.
Act of Valour is still proving to be a draw at the theatre, being all that it can be at sixth place with a $3.6 million haul, while Safe house stayed strong in the seventh spot with a $2.8 million draw, while Journey 2 hung onto the top rope for the eighth spot at $2.4 million.
Will Ferrell and his new limited release, Spanish-only debut film, Casa De Mi Padre, earned $2.2 million across 382 screens, leaving This means war at the bottom, as it took in another $2.1 million.
