Next X-Men sequel title revealed

20th Century Fox has enough good super-hero things going for them right now. A Deadpool sequel, a New Mutants movie and the upcoming Logan which is for looking exceptional. So I was kind of hoping that with the last X-Men movie not quite living up to standard that they would give that particular franchise a break to figure out what they want to do with it. But it seems they still believe there is more to be milked (understanding considering X-Men: Apocalypse still made a decent amount of money despite being a mediocre film) and so they are still pursuing another X-Men sequel.

And it appears the title of that sequel may have already been leaked to the world. A recent issue of Production Weekly has revealed a list of upcoming movies and has the titled X-Men: Supernova on the line-up. And before you confuse it with perhaps some code-name for the new Mutants movie, X-Men: The New Mutants is listed separately.

Now those dates are just shoot dates of when they are looking to start production, not release dates before you get yourself too excited. But still, with a release date coming that soon, I think its unlikely that this X-Men movie will be a complete reboot, as it would take a considerable amount of time to recast a film such as this. Though I think its likely this X-Men movie could focus on some of the next generation of mutants that were introduced in Apocalypse.

One interesting rumour doing the rounds though is that this sequel will actually take place in the 90s, which would intersect the whole existing X-Men timeline quite interestingly. (If anyone can actually figure out its timeline anymore). As to what they would possibly be doing in the 90’s, Bryan Singer, who is not going to directing this sequel, had previously had the following to say:

Another thing that’s been introduced in the comics is a big alien, interstellar tenant within the X-Men universe that hasn’t been explored. And to me, that might be kind of fun because I’m a huge Star Wars and Star Trek fan, and exploring the X-Men universe and being able to utilize that would be exciting, visually.

Not sure if that was a sly clue to what the whole film would be about, but with a movie title of Supernova, a space theme could certainly be in store. However, there is also a 2007 X-Men comic book that was titled X-Men: Supernovas which featured a group of heroes led by Rogue and their fight against the Children of the Vault – a cousin species of modern humans who believe that they should rule Earth. This could be a possibility, but with a new Rogue not introduced into the current timeline, it might not fit into the rest of the timeline so well.

Supernova could also simply just be a working title for now though and the studio may only reveal the final title closer to release. Either way, it seems 20th Century Fox is still wanting to push the X-Men brand more and Apocalypse is certainly not going to be the last we see of this universe. Which in hindsight, is probably not a bad thing.

Same here, I also enjoyed the last XMen movie. I think I enjoyed it more than the previous one. I suppose, it’ll take something spectacularly bad to beat the worst XMen movie ever made – X Men 3 : The Last Stand.

I love the Xmen Franchise, always have, since a little boy watching the series in the 90s on TV. Played the game X-Men (1992) in the arcades. Love them man. Don’t have any doubts in any of the movies, and they never disappoint. Looking forward to the new Logan release this year. Will watch these 2 as they develop.
