I’m not sure what it is with some heavy metal musicians and cheesy movies, but there definitely seems to be strange connection. Rob Zombie has built a big reputation for his cheesy B-grade horror movies and now we have Shawn Crahan, better known as Clown, a percussionist for Slipknot, who is following the same path in his first feature film release titled Officer Downe.

Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the film follows a premise very similar to Robocop, where a police officer who is assumed to be killed is resurrected as a seemingly bullet-proof robot to take on a gang of criminals that are taking over the city. And that’s pretty much where the similarities end, as this movie looks like its pumped full of LSD or some other type of drug, that sees everything from killer nuns to masked villains. All over-the-top and full of silliness. James is going to love this.

And it’s not just the whole style of the film that is over the top. It’s those one-liners that bring in more layers of cheese than a triple decker, cheesy crust pizza that is topped with even more cheese. You are almost expecting the lead actor, Kim Coates to rip off a mask and reveal he is indeed Arnold Schwarzenegger. It fits the style of the graphic novel, but some things don’t translate well into movies and I think this is one of them. You kind of expect films to have dialogue with more depth to them.

Officer Downe will be released on VOD on November 18th. It’s not something I would be rushing to see, but with so many directors building a cult reputation on what many might consider really bad movies, I guess there is a market for it.
