Like Wing Commander, Ultima is a revered name in old-school PC gaming circles. It’s a pity then that Like Wing Commander (Which got its named plastered on the abysmal XBLA Wing Commander Academy) , EA has pissed all over it.
Lord of Ultima is currently in beta, and by all accounts it looks like a damned rip-off of Evony, itself a rip-off of Cilvilsation. Developed by Phenomic and played through your web browser, Lord of Ultima is a “game where you build your own unique city and play with thousands of other players.†So just like Evony, only without boobs as advertising – and so ridiculously far removed from the series’ RPG roots.
I have to question why this even exists – other than for EA to tap away at Evony and Kingory’s market share, of course.

Disgrace! Atrocity! Surely EA is Lord Blackthorne made manifest in the modern age… always knew those money-loving artless punks were up to no good. Oh that Avatar had not ascended…. 🙁
