Ridley Scott clears up Blade Runner rumours… Sort of.

First we heard that Harrison Ford was returning to the role of Deckard, and the internet erupted in choruses of glee. But then the very next day a producer came out to say that in fact Ford had nothing to do with the sequel. This was the emotional equivalent of biting into a juicy apple, enjoying the delicious flavours. Then looking down and seeing half a worm wriggling out.

But now Ridley Scott himself has weighed in on the matter.Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Scott pointed out that all speculation was moot at this early juncture:

We’re still in discussions about whether it should be a prequel or sequel. It’s an interesting conversation. I’m meeting with writers and I’ve also gone back to [originalBlade Runner screenwriter] Hampton Fancher and he still speaks the speak. He’s right there. I spoke with him this week. But we don’t even have a script yet.

When asked about whether it should be ruled out that Ford may potentially return, Scott responded with:

Absolutely not. But I’m not sure that that’s going to be a story point, so I don’t know. But if it were, nothing would please me more. Honestly.

He also went on to describe how it was his eagerly anticipated sc-fi extravaganza Prometheus, that actually led him to doing this follow-up film:

…I just thought Prometheus was so enjoyable — returning to the world of science fiction was so fun — that I wanted to [go back to Blade Runner, too]. I’m also thinking about what the hell I might do for a Prometheus 2.
