Rumour: A rebooted Batman will star in the Justice League film first, before going solo

Warner Bros has been making a ton of cash over the last couple of years, thanks to tentpole summer blockbusters such as Batman and Harry Potter. But those current franchises are over, and the WB needs a new spectacle or two to rake in the dough.

They’re already preparing new franchises, with Man of Steel next year, and following on the success of The Avengers, a Justice League film that is currently being planned. But whereas Marvel spent years building up their characters for that successful debut, WB might just go in the opposite direction, and use a JL film to catapult new films instead.

It’s no secret that WB will reboot Batman, and using the JL film as a platform to do so, might be ideal. Over at Batman-on-film, a reliable source says  that may indeed be the case:

Said reboot will come after the JL film, not before. Therefore, the new cinematic Batman will be introduced in the JL film as opposed to a solo film. This would, according to my industry “FOBOF,” assure the new Batman film series will be part of a “DC Cinematic Universe.”

And hey, this approach could actually work quite well. It’s unclear yet as to whether the upcoming Zack Snyder directed Superman film will fit into this ambitious project, but doing so could also sidestep something that fans want to avoid, namely, a repeat of an origin story. We all know who Batman is by now, and rehashing those sad events in his life that created him could just wind up stealing valuable screen time instead.

Currently, Will Beall is tasked with producing a script for Justice League, and bringing the heavyweight DC characters together. The project has yet to find a director, but it’ll be interesting to see what kind of Batman they introduce.

(Psst, WB, the writers here at TheMovies might have a few great ideas for you, when Bats gets his own film franchise again.)
