Like it or not, but Warner Bros will never allow a franchise such as Lethal Weapon to ride off into the sunset. WB has been planning to reboot the tale of a mad cop and and his long-suffering buddy for quite a while now, but the various pitches have been stuck in development hell. Lately though, it seems that the project is picking up pace once again, thanks to a new rumour that the next Riggs will bring the thunder with him.

That’s according to The Tracking Board at least, who say that offers have been sent out to Chris “Thor” Hemsworth to headline the flick, with Justin “GI Joe: Retaliation” Lin directing. According to their sources, this remake will sit between sequel and prequel, as Hemsworth will play the part of a different Riggs, who is in fact the son of series madman Martin Riggs. Weird, but it could work. It’s pretty much the exact same idea behind another 1980s project, Beverly Hills Cop which will be shooting soon.

Other than that though, it looks Joel Silver is still producing, with the project now known as Lionheart. Original Lethal Weapon scribe Shane Black is also hanging around, to offer some consultation advice. Take this all with a pinch of salt then, as things can change.

I’m personally hoping that they do remake Lethal Weapon. Because I’m dead certain that I could land a role as Leo Getz, ok? Ok ok ok ok ok!

  1. Who will play Roger Murtaugh? Denzel Washington, Sam Jackson or Morgan Freeman maybe?

She certainly has the name for it.

I was imaging Don Cheadle, but yeah, Pounder
