I think I better play the Lotto this weekend, because boy can I pick ’em! Just the other day I mentioned that my top pick to play a young Lara Croft in the upcoming video game adaptation reboot of Tomb Raider, would be none other than Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley. And now comes a story from Deadline that the young British actress is indeed being considered for the gig by MGM and Warner Bros!

Deadline does point out that their sources indicate Ridley’s name is not the only one on the list though – and that no offers have been made to anybody as this is merely discussion – but with her massive breakout success thanks to The Force Awakens, you would have to guess that it’s pretty much right at the top or very close to it.

At 23, Ridley is definitely not too old to play a character in her late teens, which is more than likely the time period we will be seeing in Lara Croft’s life now that director Roar Uthaug has confirmed that the upcoming reboot would telling an origin story, following in the footsteps of the critically acclaimed 2013 video game reboot of the long-running franchise. What’s more Ridley has already exhibited every single facet needed to portray Lara: her natural likability, her emotional vulnerabilities and toughness, and her willingness to get completely physical in a role. In short, I think she’s the perfect casting.

The only problem is going to be availability as Ridley is undoubtedly going to have her calendar completely occupied by Star Wars for the next few years. She’s currently busy filming the still untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII for a December 2017 release, and then still has the final chapter in the trilogy in 2019’s Episode IX. There was only three month gap between the release of The Force Awakens and the production start of Episode VIII, and if the same plays out for Episode IX then she’s completely off the table probably until at least early 2018.

There hasn’t been an official release date set yet for Tomb Raider but 2017 had previously been bandied around, and that would be all but impossible for Ridley to make. Which would be a huge pity. Not just because of her suitability for the role as I mentioned above, but because Ridley will undoubtedly brings a whole new generation of movie goers to whatever role she picks next, and having it be another fully-formed ass-kicking female character like Lara Croft would do even more to establish her place in pop culture.

What do you guys think? Would Daisy Ridley make a great young Lara Croft, or would you rather see somebody else in the role? Sound off below!
