Rumour: Megan Fox circling Poison Ivy role in GOTHAM CITY SIRENS

Just the other day, after months of nothing more than Hollywood watercooler talk, we finally heard the confirmation that Suicide Squad‘s Margot Robbie will in fact be getting a spinoff focused on her Harley Quinn. Directed by Suicide Squad‘s David Ayer, this spinoff will be titled Gotham City Sirens, and much like the comic book of the same name will focus on the villainous trio the aforementioned Harley, Catwoman and Poison Ivy as they get up to no good. As I found Robbie’s Harley Quinn to be one of the better aspects about the uneven Suicide Squad, I was actually totally onboard with this idea. I’m not sure how I feel now though.

According to Bleeding Cool, it would seem that one particular actress is already gunning for the role of plant-based Batman villain Poison Ivy: Former Michael Bay muse Megan Fox. Now there’s no actual studio rumblings that she’s up for the part, but BC’s Rich Johnston claims that he’s been “shown hard evidence” that the Transformers and TMNT actress recently started ordering some very intriguing comics online to be shipped to her Warner Bros. studio lot address. The comics in question are Harley Quinn #14 and #17, both pre-New 52 books that delve into the relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.

Now it has to be reiterated again, that there’s no further evidence trail here. Just Megan Fox ordering comic books. And I know for some that is actually enough already to be put off by the possibility of her being cast in this role. Fox may have burst onto the scene – and into many a teen’s inappropriate dreams – with the first Transformers film, but she hasn’t exactly proven herself to be the next Meryl Streep since, if you know what I mean. She’s mostly a one-note actress, relying almost entirely on her looks and sensuality for her characters. However, sensuality is actually a big part of Poison Ivy. Plus, I have to admit that I’ve warmed to Fox a bit of late, mostly thanks to her surprisingly charming run on New Girl.

On top of that, Fox is actually a bit of a comic book fan, and even lobbied to play Poison Ivy in a possible movie years ago. She was also totally committed to star in an adaptation of the late Michael Turner’s Fathom if that would ever come to past, and for a long time she was attached to a cinematic reboot of Witchblade as well. So despite what you may think of her as an actress, she’s more than likely really invested in this. And besides, the last time we saw Poison Ivy on screen, they had the incredible Uma Thurman playing the part, and that still turned out to be the embarrassing shit-show that was Batman and Robin.

All that being said, she still has those Megan Fox toe-thumbs though. Damn.

  1. She’s not that bad, just another person the internet loves to hate.
