Ryan Gosling wants to fight in this red band trailer for ONLY GOD FORGIVES

Director Nicolas Winding Refn and star Ryan Gosling’s Drive was easily one of the best films of 2012. A soft talking, violently exploding film about a cool anti-hero and his even cooler jacket, and all the people who get headstomped when they stand in the way of his and kinda-sorta girlfriend’s happiness. It’s a film that hit you with the force of a 12-gauge to the forebrain, which is why folks have been foaming at the mouth for the duo’s next film together, Only God Forgives.

And now thanks to this new Red Band trailer, we finally have a look at it in all it’s supercool violent glory.

Julian (Ryan Gosling) is a former kickboxer and gangster living in Bangkok, running a Thai Boxing club as a front for his family’s drug dealing business. When his younger brother kills a local prostitute and is himself murdered in retaliation by a ruthless Thai police lieutenant, Julian is forced by his brutal crime boss mother (Kristen Scott Thomas) to seek vengeance or risk his own death.

Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you do a trailer. Eerie and cool, with intriguing visuals and a killer payoff line, without really giving away much anything about the story. Refn and Gosling seem to both be firing on all cylinders here and I’m getting that same feeling of bubbling tension with brutal explosions of violence as we had in Drive, which is definitely a good thing. Also, DID YOU SEE THAT DUDE GET DRAGGED BY THE MOUTH?!

Only God Forgives will be punching its way into cinemas on May 23, 2013.

Were you also expecting more car chases?

Sorry, I know I’m a week late to the party, but I do concur. I just did not get why people liked drive. There should have been more car chases damnit! The movie is called “Drive” and features a get away driver. As Rincethis would say…le sigh.

Yes! At the spot where the robbery goes wrong, I was anticipating a massive getaway scene. Alas…

I wasn’t a fan of Drive, but this has potential.
