And it seems that those prolific, off-beat and multiple Oscar winning Coen brothers are at it again. Not a year goes by where there is not a movie with their touch to it (most recently the screenplay for last year’s Bridge of Spies) and their next effort is the upcoming Hail, Caesar!. It seems to follow the familiar off-beat comedy approach we’ve come to know from them in the past and with what has been released thus far, this one looks like it will be another interesting ride. Not everyone is a fan of the Coen brothers humour, but once you learn to appreciate it, their movies tend to be really enjoyable – and also very character driven, which is what actors love and why they line up to act in these brothers movies in hope of getting memorable roles.

The synopsis for this new film, as reported by Comingsoon.net is as follows:

When the world’s biggest star vanishes and his captors demand an enormous ransom for his safe return, it will take the power of Hollywood’s biggest names to solve the mystery of his disappearance.  Bringing the audience along for a comic whodunit that pulls back the curtain and showcases the unexpected humor and industry drama found behind the scenes, Hail, Caesar! marks the Coens at their most inventive.

It is certainly a typically bizarre and interesting story line and to go along with this little snippet, they have also released a featurette to show a closer look into the making of the movie and also released some character posters.

You can also catch the official trailer for the film below if you have yet to see it:

This is one of their more ambitious undertakings and I love the old 50s Hollywood feel which the costume design, cinematography by Roger Deakins and over the top Coen direction do a solid job in portraying here. Hail, Caesar! stars Josh Brolin and George Clooney (both regular Coen collaborators) alongside a talented cast featuring Ralph Fiennes,Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johansson and Jonah Hill. That is certainly a good cast and is a movie to look out for if you love your comedies witty, extravagant and a little self-indulgent.

The film is being produced by the Coen brothers under their Mike Zoss Productions banner, with Working Title Films and Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan. Universal Pictures will release Hail, Caesar! in SA on the 19 February. The film releases this weekend in the U.S and so we will be able to see what sort of reception it receives there to gauge how good it may be.
