Hotel Transylvania seems to be one of the toon film highlights of the year so far. Despite having a stock-standard “everyone learns something and becomes better”, the film was still crawling with other story nods and winks, that helped it grab a cool slice of box office revenue to the tune of $270.4 million so far.
And Sony wants to book back into that hotel for a sequel.
Sony studios is taking another stab at monster tourism, and already have a release date planned for it, for September 25, 2015. What they don’t have though, is a writer or director.
And with Hotel Transylvania having a troubled development cycle before Genddy “Dexter’s Lab” Tartakovsky came on board, it looks like it’ll be a different take on that tourist hotspot.
Tartakovsky is unlikely to return, as he’ll instead be working on a Popeye picture for 2014. As for Adam Sandler and his crew of monster-voicing regulars, such as Kevin James, Andy Samberg, Steve Buscemi, CeeLo Green and David Spade, it seems like they at least, will be an easy sell to return to the recording booths.
