As we get closer to the release of the next X-Men movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, we are also starting to get introduced to many of the new characters they are looking to introduce into the franchise like Olivia Munn as Psylocke. Well, this one isn’t exactly a new character, as Jean grey is a well established X-Men character who was extremely central to the plot of the first 3 X-Men movies (played by Famke Janssen ) and the last Wolverine movie, but hasn’t since been involved in the prequels films (except for a brief cameo appearance at the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past) which have instead focused on younger versions of the characters.

But, it is a character that they’ve needed to introduce to ensure the character is brought into relevancy to set up the later movies and that is exactly what they are looking to do with this new film. And they have tapped Sophie Turner (from Game of Thrones) as the new Jean Grey – and she certainly looks suited to play the character. In speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Turner spoke about the differences between her portrayal of Jean Grey and that of Janssen’s.

The difference between this and Famke’s Jean Grey is she’s young and isolated and so insecure and very alienated – even from the other mutants – because she’s so powerful. So there’s a real vulnerability to her and it’s great to see how her and Scott [Tye Sheridan] find each other through that alienation. She’s a great role to play, she’s so much fun, and her arc in the movie is amazing.

This is all as expected and it would be great to see the character of Dr Grey really come into her own without being attached to Scott yet and see how she uses her powers in the midst of independence. Scott always brought a lot of stability to the character of Grey, who wasn’t afraid to be adventurous, so this could be a fun ride that we will be taken on with the character in the film. I’m sure there will be some chemistry between Grey and Scott brought into the film, but lets hope the love story doesn’t get in the way of the action.

Turner had previously mentioned in 2014 to EW about her desire to play a superhero in movies:

I think it would be really cool to do like a Marvel project with superheroes, because that’s so far from what I’ve done so far. But I don’t have a particular role or particular person I would like to play. It’s not like the roles I’ve had aren’t dream roles, but I don’t have one I’m after. But a superhero would be fun.

So, now that she has gotten her opportunity, what does she think of any future predictions:

I’m just going to start saying a lot more things that I’d like. I’d really like a few boxes of cookies!

Sorry, but we can’t help you with a box of cookies here, but I do hope EW at least answered that request. I’m looking forward to seeing more of her portrayal of Jean Grey in the upcoming film, I just hope the costume looks a lot less silly than the below promotional material indicates:
