For a movie that for the longest time looked like nothing but the deranged pipe dream of Ryan Reynolds and anybody who watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine and walked away equally confused and angered at the mangled handling of the Merc With the Mouth (in other words, everybody), Deadpool has looked absolutely phenomenal lately. But that’s just in ballsy trailers and hilarious marketing – the real proof of the pudding chimichanga is in the eating. Or in this case watching. As in watching the movie.
Which is exactly what some lucky fans got to do, much to their surprise when Fox played the entire movie in full at two screenings in New York and Los Angeles. With the movie a month away from release, these fans thought they were just going to see some new snippets of footage, but were instead surprised by the Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds in attendance in New York, while director Tim Miller and c0-stars T.J. Miller and Briana Hildebrand, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, producer Simon Kinberg, and the legendary Stan Lee all showed up in LA. And in both venues they were there to introduce a full screening of the entire movie. Wow.
And if that wasn’t cool enough already, it appears that the movie itself is “f***ing amazing!”. At least that’s according to the first reactions that have hit social media yesterday (via Collider and CBM).
[Now I need to put up this disclaimer that these are not impartial critics, but actual Deadpool fans. In other words, these screenings were really preaching to the choir. Also emotions tend to run a bit high straight after one of these events, before any analytical dissection has occurred. That being said, it’s still a good indicator of how your general Deadpool fan will respond. Also it must be noted that the last time we got reactions like this from an early screening, it was last year’s brilliant Kingsmen]Nothing like a surprise afternoon delight. @VancityReynolds & crew surprised fans w/ a #Deadpool screening tonight pic.twitter.com/b8IqEDlKPI

This #deadpool fan's happy. Really fun movie. Overall plot's standard, but consistently strong comedy, fan service & action overshadow that.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, “Deadpool” tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
Deadpool hits local screens on February 12, 2016, and suddenly that date seems like it’s so far away!
