Take a peek at some brand new images of RED DAWN

WOLVERINES! Remember that slice of eighties cheese, Red Dawn? In which Merica was invaded by those darn Russians and their opposing Bolshevik ideologies? It’s kind of a classic, starring the late Patrick Swayze, and everyone should see it at least once in their lifetime.

Of course, Hollywood decided to remake the cult film, starring an all new cast and enemy to rebel against, over four years ago. The film was actually completed in 2010, but has been stuck on a shelf since then, because making China a global threat that takes over America wasn’t seen as such a good idea, after filming wrapped. Also MGM had no cash.

Film District finally arrived to rescue the film however, setting a November release date for it this year, and most likely giving it a new title for the lucrative Asian markets, such as Glorious Asia educates the capitalist dogs of the West for future wonders of true happiness and love, or something like that. With a new opening date, that means new promotional material, which the distributor has done with the release of the following pictures, showing cast members Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, and Josh Peck:

In “Red Dawn,” an American city awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky – shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target.

Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerilla group of fighters.

Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the Wolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.

I’ve never seen Red Dawn – for some reason it just never appealed to me. But you know your shit, so that’s on the list. Got to wonder, though: will a cold-war themed film still do well these days (talking about this remake)?

I’ve actually also never seen Red Dawn, not because it never appealed to me, but rather it’s just one of those things where I just didn’t and can’t explain why.

Guess, I have to make a plan.

Might be the time it was made. There is a film called The Outsiders that featured many of the 80s brat pack, including Swayze, and directed by F.F. Coppola. I never even knew about it until I read Rob Lowe’s biography. It’s amazing how many movies eventually fall through the cracks.

I hope you like a slice cheese with patriotic flag-waving, with this film 😀

My standard for movie patriotism is John Candy in Canadian Bacon. This had better match up!

    I prefer Peter Griffin’s version:
