When will teens ever learn that making light of someone else’s tragedy is never a good idea?  At least this time we get the satisfaction of seeing some revenge for their immaturity. This new trailer from Shudder, AMC Network’s streaming service, and first-time director Tim Shechmeister titled Can’t Take It Back looks like the perfect cannon fodder to attract and scare teens at the same time. And teach them a lesson about online bullying.

Can’t Take It Back, which debuts on October 26th on Shudder is a sci-fi horror thriller following two high school girls who decide it would be funny to post hateful comments on the Facebook page of a classmate who committed suicide, only to learn what it means to take a joke too far. It’s a story that looks to mix classic urban legend with new school social media anxiety. And looks terrible to boot.

It doesn’t exactly look like we are likely to get anything different with this movie which appears to play on all the genre tropes we’ve seen before. It also looks like it might be filled with lots of that juvenile humour that gives my age away when I don’t find it funny anymore. It’s very low-budget, but this is kind of what you expect from a debut filmmaker still trying to make a name for themselves. The message does serve as a mini anti-cyberbullying campaign which is definitely a big issue plaguing the internet at the moment.

I guess one noteworthy highlight of the film is that it stars a YouTube star, Logan Paul in the lead. While this movie doesn’t exactly look like one to highlight the performances of its cast, it shows that talking to a camera for hours on end can eventually pay off if you can get enough people to watch your channel. There is hope for you yet, Nick. Now we need to just get people to like you.
