Want to watch the best animated Batman series in one mammoth marathon? You’d probably immediately think of the landmark original series that began in 1992, or even it’s far-flung futuristic successor Batman Beyond. All good choices of course, but eclipsed by an even better offering from 2008. I’m talking Batman: The Brave and the Bold, a series which managed to capture all the utter silliness of the Silver Age of the caped crusader and turn that into the finest action-packed 21 minutes of weekly animation that you’d ever seen.
Hell, Batman: The Brave and the Bold was so dang good that it even made Aquaman likable again. That’s not just impressive, that’s a proper miracle. Outrageous. Looking back at that series, reveals a Batman in the prime of his identity. A champion of justice, whose childhood tragedy defined him but didn’t overshadow his humanity.
A series that gave some of the most obscure heroes in the DC library a moment in the spotlight, as this Batman cracked clues and skulls. Its been six years since the final episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold ended. The bright knight is making a comeback for another mystery, that has him enlisting the aid of none other than…Scooby freakin’ Doo. Like, zoinks. Here’s the first trailer from IGN:
On the one hand, it’s more of Diedrich Bader’s brilliant Batman. On the other hand, I hate at least 40% of Scooby Doo because there’s nothing I’d like to do more than shove Shaggy and his mutt into a rocket and fire it into the sun were I ever given the chance to do so. Like the many episodes before it, Scooby-Doo and Batman: The Brave and the Bold will also feature a few cameos from the other super-sleuths in the DC Universe, including the likes of Detective Chimp, Black Canary and the Question.
It’s out next year January, and I’m presuming that it’ll engage maximum Jinkies to turbine speed.

This will be great, the DC animated movies and Scooby Doo are still some of the best animations to come out in recent years. Wont be the first time they team up together either, there was Scooby doo meets Batman and The Caped Crusader Caper.

It absolutely was. Here’s the thing: If you’re a kid, the series was totally enjoyable, but for an adult or a parent? There was a campy gleefulness to it, and more than enough humour to satisfy audiences young and old.
I always felt that Brave and the Bold was a love letter to a more campy era of Batman, which managed to bridge the age gap.
You compare that to Marvel’s recent efforts, which are paint-by-numbers pandering to the a younger audience while alienating older fans, and the difference is even more obvious.
TLDR: Batman: Brave and the Bold was good fun for any and all ages.
