The Grinch is once again going to steal Christmas

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been over 12 years since Jim Carrey donned a green suit and pranced around wrecking Christmas for an entire town of Yuletide-obsessed Santaphiles. And yet, that Ron Howard film is still as good today as it was back then. Hell, it’s played on pretty much every single channel, every single Christmas.

So obviously, it’s time for a new take on that tale. And it’s all Danny Devito’s fault.

Well, thanks to that film that his voice starred in. The Lorax hit it big last year, making $348 million in environmental cash. Obviously, that’s a  formula for success that other Seuss properties are ripe for then. Back in 2008, another animated Seuss property, Horton hears a Who, managed to snatch up a respectable $297 million in total, so clearly, animated is the way to go.

Illusion Entertainment and Universal Pictures will be producing the animated version of How the Grinch stole Christmas, which will be directed by Peter Candeland THR reports. The story was originally published way back yonder in 1957, and was later adapted into animated form in 1966, before Ron Howard live-actioned it in 2000.

How do you feel? Too soon for CGI, or is it high time for a fresh stab at Whoville?
