2012’s The Raid: Redemption was arguably the best action movie of the last decade, with its insane and brutal fight choreography and sphincter destroying tension. The only bad thing that could be said about it, was that due to its limited release, this Indonesian gem was only seen by the hardcore action aficionados and all the people they kept ragging to watch it (guilty as charged!). That’s all set to change with its sequel, The Raid 2: Berandal, though, which will be getting a much wider release. That’s a very good thing, because based on some of the scenes in this first full trailer, if you had to go around just telling people about it, they might not believe you.

Immediately following the events of the original, “The Raid 2” tracks Officer Rama as he is pressured to join an anticorruption task force to guarantee protection for his wife and child. His mission is to get close to a new mob boss, Bangun, by befriending his incarcerated son, Uco. Rama must hunt for information linking Bangun with corruption in the Jakarta Police Department while pursuing a dangerous and personal vendetta that threatens to consume him and bring his mission–and the organized crime syndicate–down around him.

Hell frakking yes! Writer/director Gareth Evans showed in the first film that he has an incredible flair for brutal, bone crunching action scenes, and he certainly appears to be keeping that streak alive here. And honestly, the last time a man did a foot shuffle on screen as cool as that, he was wearing balloon pants and telling people how they couldn’t touch him.

The Raid 2: Berandal will be flying kicking its way into cinemas on March 28, 2014 and sees star Iko Uwais return to brutalize the various body parts of co-stars Tio Pakusadewo, Putra Arifin Scheunamann, Julie Estelle, Alex Abbad and Roy Marten.
