It’s not always easy being a gamer. Sure, as a platform for entertainment, it’s reached new heights of popularity and acceptance, but when it comes stereotypes and clichés, nothing has changed.
Noobz is one such film that takes the premise of socially awkward, OCD afflicted and virginal gamers to new lows, beating that dead horse so hard that they can feel the aftershocks on the other side of the world.
Prepare for the horror after the jump.
Jason Mewes, Blake Freeman and some guy who might be a Michael Cera clone are all present, with the rest of the cast filling out the usual roles of villains, misfits and Casper van Dien.
The gang of socially inept gamers have to put their social lives aside as they head to Los Angeles for a Gears of War 3 tournament and I just don’t care enough anymore now to keep talking about this.
Oh, and Zelda Williams, daughter of the hairiest comedian alive, is also in it! Noobz will be out this summer in the USA, and will most likely be released on straight to DVD on our side at a later date.

Welp, that’s 2:54 of my life that I can never get back. I want to rant about how bullsh- that was, but I’m too busy being a socially inept walking cliche of a “gamer” to bother.

It wasn’t even a “laugh because it was so bad”, it was just insulting.

I still regret the fact that I helped expose more people to that rubbish DDR gang battle movie, but just like with FDR: American Badass, if I have to sit through that piece of excrement, then I’m sure as hell going to make sure that the rest of feel my pain as well.

There’s a special barrel of internet links that I like to turn upside down and then vigorously scrape whenever I feeling I’m sadistic.

Don’t be so quick – this might be a trailer fatality. The movie really resonates early Kevin Smith. That might be because Jason Mewes is in it, but I see potential here. It looks a million times more interesting and better than Fanboys, which still makes me cry a little when I think of it.
I’ll put this on the Maybe pile and wait for the Rotten Tomatoes round-up.

Also, whoever wrote the headline for this post never saw ‘Stay Alive’…

Wow, that looks bad. Presumably written and made by people whose sole life experience occurred within the confines of bad American sitcoms and Direct to Video teen comedies

What I want to know is why do the characters keep falling over? Do they have neurological disorders or something?

Just me or do some of the scenes and characters closely resemble Tim Buckley’s Ctrl+Alt+Del comics? Ethan – socially inept, Lucas – Gamer / realistic person etc etc?
I mean really?

It sounds like they wanted to make a Clerks-type movie that would appeal to those within Generation C, but instead it appeals to no-one, especially not gamers. I get it, Hollywood is convinced that the average gamer is socially inept, slightly retarded but the slacker stereotype is just getting old now.
