When Kervyn first told me to write up something about Trolls I wasn’t sure the world was ready to find out about the inner workings of themovies and its writing team, but as it turns out they’re actually making a movie based on the iconic recognisable toys with the colourful silly hair – Troll dolls. I’m sure they have a good reason for it, although I have no idea what that is.

Anywho, Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake will head up the voice cast that’ll bring the briefly-popular-on-a-recurring-basis toys to life for DreamWorks Animation in their very own family-friendly adventure.

The plot synopsis, courtesy of Deadline, is:

Anna Kendrick stars as Princess Poppy, the relentlessly upbeat leader of the group who embarks on an adventure with her polar opposite Branch (Justin Timberlake). Together they trek far beyond the only world they have ever known and encounter Bergens, the overtly pessimistic beings who have a hunger for the little guys.

And on to the trailer, which gives us a brief introduction to our colourful characters:

Oh, now I see why – they picked up a discarded script for the Smurfs movie and retrofitted it for the next best (heh) thing… Troll dolls. Okay that may be a tad uncharitable, but the similarity is smurftacularly obvious. While the trailer shows you nothing of the actual movie, I should point out that the movie does come from the writing duo of Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger – the team behind Kung Fu Panda 1-3 and Monster vs. Aliens – so there could be more to this than is immediately apparent.

Trolls is due for release on 4 November and is directed by Shrek franchise veterans Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn. In addition to Kendrick and Timberlake, the voice cast also includes James Corden, Gwen Stefani and Russel Brand among others.

I’m sure we all wish Wendy Smurf and Grumpy Smurf all the best on their adventures. Wait… crap.
