Move over, Bruce Wayne! It’s time for a new gritty reimagining of a classic character that was pretending to be a bat long before that part-time Gotham socialite fell down a well and got the idea to punch bad people in the face. I am of course referring to Legendary’s reboot of Bram Stoker’s classic bloodsucker in Dracula Untold, which surprised me quite a bit with its first trailer. I’ve been a Luke Evans fan for a while now, so I was always hopeful that this movie would finally be the breakout role he deserves, and the epic first trailer certainly hinted at just that possibility.

Yes, it also hinted at the possibility of being an overly glum hodge-podge of ideas blatantly lifted from recent video games and other fantasy adventure flicks, but I’m a glass hall full (of blood?) kind of guy, so let’s just focus on all the cool stuff for now. This new international trailer features a few new snippets of footage showing off more of the life of Evans’ Vlad Tepes before he became a pain in the neck, before once again focusing on all those cool vampirish powers that featured so heavily in the first promo. It also has a Japanese voiceover announcing the title, which of course makes it about 140% cooler.

IGN also recently got to do a set visit for the movie, and besides for showing some neat footage, they were also able to chat to the cast about their character as well as just what makes this Dracula story different to all the other Dracula stories we’ve seen and read over the years.

Dracula Untold is the directing debut of Gary Shore, and also stars Dominic Cooper, Sarah Gadon and Charles Dance. It is scheduled for release on October 17, 2014.

Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6, Immortals) stars in Dracula Untold, the origin story of the man who became Dracula.
