Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper have worked together twice before, on director David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook and also his American Hustle, with both times netting the pair awards glory. When it came to the big one, Cooper had to be content with Oscar nominations in both films, while Lawrence also got the noms but actually walked away with her first Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook. And now the pair of actors, fresh from being respectively ogled on the internet and being a raccoon with a prosthetic leg fetish, are back together again with Serena, the long-delayed period drama that looks to be setting itself up for some more gold.

They’ve swapped David O. Russell though for Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier, who may not have the mainstream recognition that Russell does but has an IMDB Awards page as long as my forearm. And I have really long arms.

The film has a had a lengthy path to the screen, with it originally actually been a directing vehicle for Darren Aronofsky with Angelina Jolie starring. After Bier replaced Aronofsky, she cast Lawrence who then recommended Cooper, and principle photography officially began in March 2012 and ended a few months later in May. However, it took Bier another 18 months to get the film done. Just why it took that long is unknown, as there were apparently no reshoots or post-production problems. It could be that Bier is just incredibly meticulous about the smallest of details. Whatever the case, the film is now finally ready for release, and has debuted a trailer to prove it.

North Carolina mountains at the end of the 1920s – George and Serena Pemberton, love-struck newly-weds, begin to build a timber empire. Serena soon proves herself to be equal to any man: overseeing loggers, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. With power and influence now in their hands, the Pembertons refuse to let anyone stand in the way of their inflated love and ambitions. However, once Serena discovers George’s hidden past and faces an unchangeable fate of her own, the Pembertons’ passionate marriage begins to unravel leading toward a dramatic reckoning.

Serena also stars Toby Jones, Sean Harris and Sam Reid. It is scheduled for release on November 27, 2014.
