If John wick taught us one thing, it was to never mess with a man’s dog. It seems some gangsters haven’t been paying attention though as Once Upon A Time in Venice sees more criminals on the back-end of some pain for this clear lack of judgment. This time, however, it is Bruce Willis dishing out the pain and the film appears to have none of the slick action that we saw in John Wick. There are few sights more satisfying than seeing Willis’ bald head blast through countless bad guys while surviving certain death at almost every turn. This movie though will have none of that.

Instead, despite a stellar cast that includes John Goodman, Jason Momoa, Famke Janssen and Thomas Middleditch, Once Upon a Time in Venice looks like it is more of a parody film from the tone of this trailer than something we should be taking seriously. It looks like it might be good for a laugh though, especially Momoa’s over the top performance here.

Once Upon A Time in Venice is written and directed by Robb and Mark Cullen, who also wrote the script for the Bruce Willis-starring vehicle Cop Out – which wasn’t very good. Let’s hope this is not a repeat of that movie, however based on the evidence of the trailer, I’m not convinced. Still, crazy films have a way of working themselves into your hearts and this is definitely looking like a crazy film.

Ford (Bruce Willis) is a down but not out L.A based Private Investigator whose professional and personal worlds collide after his loving pet Buddy is stolen by a notorious gang. A series of crazy circumstances find him doing the gang’s bidding, while being chased by two vengeful Samoan brothers, a loan shark’s goons, and a few other shady characters. They say a dog is a man’s best friend, and Steve shows how far a man will go to be reunited with him.

Once Upon a Time in Venice hits US theatres on June 16th. There is no confirmed date for release in South Africa and that all may depend on its success in the US market first.
