TWIN PEAKS returns to television in 2016

Twin-Peaks

More than 20 years ago, a gamble was taken. Director David Lynch was given free rein on a television show, and along with co-creator Mark Frost, the pair created something that was weird, spooky and wonderful. Twin Peaks was way ahead of its time, and still worth a watch today if you’re into dancing midgets like Kervyn is. And the show is making a return, in the best way possible.

Because it won’t be a reboot or a re-imagining or any of that nonsense. Instead, Twin Peaks will return with Lynch and Frost at the helm for nine new episodes on the Showtime network. Here’s the video announcing that new deal:

According to Deadline, the new series will be set in the present day and continue the tale of the original show. There’s no casting informaton at this point, but hopefully Kyle MacLachlan will return as Special Agent Dale Cooper. The show had several other big name actors when it first debuted, including David Lynch himself as Gordon Cole, Miguel Ferrer, Kiefer Sutherland and Michael J. Anderson as the “Man From Another Place.”

Shooting for the new season kicks off in 2015, with the premiere set to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the end of the original episodes. Lynch will direct all nine episodes, and most likely be responsible for a whole new generation of weird dreams and nightmares.

If you haven’t seen Twin Peaks yet, I recommend you do so pronto. The show is trippy, creepy and it’ll have you questioning anyone who happens to have a velvet red room.

  1. When I was a kid Twin Peaks was on at my bed time, so I drifted off to sleep listening to that awesome theme track.

Not excited. Dunno who has watched Twin Peaks recently, but it hasn’t aged well and is really a bit of a mess. Lynch has also just been on a long slide downwards since the Nineties. So this might get fans all geeked up, but they either remember Twin Peaks with rose tinted glasses or never actually watched it at all.
