Two-Face and Leonidas retake the White House in the OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN trailer

A trailer and a poster for Antoine “Training Day” Fuqua’s new action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen has been released and it does seem like terrorists have it in for the White House again as it is about to have a very bad day.

I have to admit, this is the first time that Olympus Has Fallen blips on my radar and I’m quite surprised about that. It stars more than a handful of leading men and a couple of fantastic ladies and it seems to be a whole lot of fun. A whole lot more than I expected before I watched the trailer for the first time. For those of you who also aren’t sure what the film is about, Comingsoon states:

In the March 22 release, the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, while disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.

Here’s the trailer:

Did…did Antoine Fuqua just make a Die Hard film, without Bruce Willis, better than the last few installments of the Die Hard franchise? The evidence is all right there! We have an badass guy stuck in a building which is being assaulted by hordes of terrorists. He is the only hope to also rescue the captured President, and I’ll be damned if he doesn’t one-man-army those bad guys like a boss.

Without getting too off-topic, that is my only concern with the new Die Hard film that is soon to be released…has it lost the essence of what makes it a Die Hard film, as opposed to a generic shoot’em up? That said, Olympus Has Fallen looks very exciting and luckily, as it isn’t a Michael Bay film, it doesn’t seem to ooze patriotism and American flags every chance it has. It does seem to cameo a few exceptional Baysplosions though, which always seems to do better when Pappa Bay isn’t around to cast Shia LaBeouf.

Gerard Butler stars as the disgraced ex-special forces guy who will help save the day and it is good to see him back in fighting shape. Olympus Has Fallen also stars Aaron Eckhart, Angela Bassett, Dylan McDermott, Ashley Judd, Melissa Leo, Rick Yune and even Morgan Freeman for a touch of class.

Who’s with me? This looks like quite a good time, no?

Well, I’ll be damned. That looks a whole lot better than I thought it would. Your move, Roland Emmerich.
