It may not have been the greatest return to the big screen by any stretch of the imagination, but you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn’t want to see more of Vin Diesel’s iconic anti-hero, Riddick. And it seems that for a pack of 20 menthol Kools, Universal is actually pretty keen on doing a shine job on bringing back the most dangerous man in the universe for a fourth film.Speaking on his Facebook page, Vin Diesel confirmed that Universal had approached him to make a fourth Riddick movie:

I’m just excited, and happy, and I’m shouting out to you guys to say thank you. Universal just called me and told me Riddick is number one on the DVD charts. There’s no way Riddick would have been made without you guys. You know that. and you guys have been a part of our page since 2012 and remember how arduous a road it was to get the movie made, and to make it rated ‘R,’ and to do it with such a low budget. It’s a win for all of us and I really, really thank you so much. Yeah, I’m excited, and of course, Universal also says they want to develop the next one.

In a way, this makes perfect sense. It may have only clocked in $98 million at the box office, but DVD and Blu-Ray sales have been massive for Riddick, which is plenty cause to get re-invested in a new film. There’s no word yet on whether director David Twohy would be back for a fourth stab in the dark, but the series just wouldn’t feel the same without him.  What do you reckon? Would you be keen for a big studio to pump plenty of extra cash into a whole new Riddick adventure?

Riddick is legendary – very interested to see where they would take the next chapter and what they would find if Riddick were to make it to Furya…

I’d be surprised if Twohy isn’t part of it. I always figured it was his baby, with Diesel as the franchise champion. Either way, I have no problem if Riddick turns into a serial franchise like FF or Resident Evil. And if that fails I will settle for the Starz TV show.
