Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson get psyched out of their minds in this first trailer for THE INTERNSHIP

The frat pack have brought us a few of the best comedies over the last decade…or was that the decade before that? Well, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are getting a bit old to play with the youngsters of today but it seems they might have drawn on some of their more elderly tendancies for their new film, The Internship.

Billy (Vaughn) and Nick (Wilson) are salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world. Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship at Google, along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation’s most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.

Having just watched that, I’m not quite sure whether Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are getting too old for this, or whether they are just translating their character’s generation gap effectively through their characters.  Vaughn and Wilson starred together in The Wedding Crashers, which was a massive hit a few years back, and I’m hoping they will be able to catch lightning in a bottle again. The pair have great chemistry which often shines through in their performances, so while the trailer didn’t really keep me interested, I’m rather hoping that The Internship is keeping most of its best jokes close to its chest, as so few films do with their trailers these days.

What do you guys think? Is The Intership going to step into a mediocre bear trap, or are we going to be pleasantly surprised? You guys can call my bookie.

Is this meant to feature every stereotype of computer jockeys from the 1980s?

Yes. Plus a bit of ‘never too old’ crap as well. I wonder if they all learn a nice lesson by the end?

Wow, that looks… dire. The reason I don’t like Vince Vaughn is once again crystal clear.

I was gonna say “what about Role Models”, but then I remembered that was Paul Rudd… he’s what Vince Vaughn would be if Vaughn was likable.

I’m actually quite fond of this group of actors. I even managed to enjoy The Watch far more than its reputation would suggest. But even Adam Sandler can make a film with fewer cliches than this…
