One thing I have enjoyed about Marvel’s movies is the fact that they don’t take themselves too seriously. They are fun. There is laughter, and silliness. Sure, Captain America: Winter Soldier lent more towards a serious action/thriller and Daredevil is definitely not light but none of those come close to the content and subject matter of The Man in the High Castle.

The pilot episode of the show, produced by Ridley Scott, David Semel and Frank Spotnitz, aired at the beginning of the year as part of Amazon Prime’s Pilot Season in which different new shows were introduced to subscribers who then had to vote on which one would get turned into a full series. The Man In the High Castle won by a landslide which is no surprise seeing as how good it is. Just how good? Well, you can now find that out for yourself as the pilot episode has now been made available in full for everybody to see courtesy of ComingSoon.net.

Before you click play, here’s some background: Based on the 1962 award-winning novel by Philip K. Dick, The Man In the High Castle is not the sort of thing one sits down to watch with the kids. Why? Well, in this alternate-reality world the Nazis and Japanese win the Second World War, Jews still have to hide for fear of death and freedom is a concept probably banned from dictionaries. Not a nice reality eh? It’s set some 20 years after the War and sees the Nazis in a state of Cold War with the Japanese. Bunny hugging happiness! No, not really. It does however sound bloody fantastic.

Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos of Mob City fame) witnesses her half-sister murdered at the hands of the Japanese but before her sister dies she manages to hand off to Juliana a film reel. Sure, that doesn’t sound too exciting, until you find out that on the reel is an alternative time line that has the Nazis and Japanese defeated by the Allied Forces in WWII. Now that sounds more familiar! The film reel is called The Grasshopper Lies Heavy and was apparently created by, you guessed it, the mysterious “Man in the High Castle”.

The story then follows Juliana as she tries to uncover what the reel is really about. Mixed up in these efforts are her secretly Jewish boyfriend Frank Frink (Rupert Evans, The Village), someone who doesn’t believe the reels to be genuine; Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank, Pretty Little Liars) a resistance fighter with a shady background; and Togami (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Mortal Kombat); a Japanese official worried about the power vacuum that will open when the Fuhrer loses his mind to Parkinson’s disease. Damn there is so much awesome in that I need to scrub myself down.

Watch it below and see for yourself!

If you are an Amazon customer you can watch the second episode till 25 October. Thereafter the series will launch on 20 November.
