Will Ferrell counts to Three Mississippi

The comedian has a busy plate as of late, with plans for an Anchorman sequel now in full swing, but he’s also going to be dipping his toes back into the world of sports comedy.

Having originally wanted to team up again with his Other Guys co-star Mark Wahlberg for a film about rival towns fighting over a game of touch football (Not soccer, mind you, the other football), the project has moved further into production, snagging itself the writing/directing team of Sean Anders and John Morris.Originally called Turkey Bowl, the film has now been renamed to Three Mississippi, and will see Ferrell and Wahlberg as the head of two competitive households, who have fought with each other for several years now in an annual tradition of touch football.

Anders will be directing solo for this project, while Morris helps polish up an earlier script. The duo have previously worked as writers on Hot Tub Time Machine and She’s Out of My League, with a directorial debut on Sex Drive, and current work on the Adam Sandler comedy, That’s My Boy.

Warner Bros is currently aiming to have principal production begin in September, with Alec Baldwin also rumoured to appear in the film, as the father of Wahlberg.

If you haven’t seen Ferrell in a sports comedy yet though, he’s done quite a few already, from the superb Kicking and Screaming, through to Talladega Nights and my personal favourite, Semi-Pro.
