MacGruber is one of those movies that you either loved or hated. While not being a box office success the movie went on to find a place in the hearts of countless fans worldwide, fueling the demand for a sequel.

The movie was based on a SNL parody of MacGyver and took inspiration off the creators love of classic action movies like Lethal Weapon, Rambo and Die Hard – with Will Forte providing most of the funny and outlandish humor. Im sure the celery scene will remain burnt in your memories forever! Using some of Hollywood’s well known actors combined with some of the stars from the WWE, MacGruber managed to provide plenty of laugh out loud moments.

Forte who also co-wrote the first movie with John Solomon (Saturday Night Live) are currently working on a draft to the sequel and in conversation with The Wrap he goes into detail regarding how the project would move forward.

It seems like we have a realistic shot at getting it made. We have a loose outline of the first couple of acts, which we’re really excited about. So we’ve just got to flesh it out a little more. If [The Last Man on Earth] were to ever be successful enough to get a second season, we’d probably have to wait until after that season to make it. If the show isn’t successful enough to do that, we’d probably jump in right away.

Based on that information production will not be starting anytime soon as The Last Man on Earth has been very successful (It really is a piece of comedic brilliance) and with the second season already here we will have to hold out a little longer for the return of MacGruber.

It also tells us that things are set to get way more outrageous. If the first movie is anything to go by, Forte has shown us that there isn’t much that he wouldn’t do when given creative freedom working on this character. He goes on to further elaborate on what we can expect from the opening sequence in MacGruber 2.

There is a possibility of starting it in a way that you would never ever start an action movie. We have this idea for a cold open, which we just don’t know if we have the balls to do. And we’ve done some crazy stuff. This is just like, ‘Do we really want to do this? Is this how we want to start out the movie?’ It’s pretty gnarly. But we might just have to do it.

600px-MacGruber+MicroUziI am one of those that really loved Macgruber, Forte and Solomon did a great job of adapting the SNL version and turning it into something that fans of the show and movie fans could enjoy equally – as long as you remember to not take yourself too serious and enjoy it for what it is.

Having only cost $10 million to make the first movie and with the cult following that it now has – I have no doubt that the sequel will be made and that they can improve on the first movie. With the original cast all set to make a return in the sequel it all points to the same mixture of elements that made Macgruber the fan favorite that it is.
