So, anything take you by surprise? For me, Moonlight winning for best dramatic film was a bit of a surprise with Manchester By the Sea getting the most critical noise in this category. Also, Issabelle Hupper for her performance in Elle (a French movie) is also a bit of a surprise. La La Land seems to be continuing with its Award hype and looks like it is going to be a truly outstanding film. Having not seen any of these movies yet, I can’t speak for myself.

On the TV front, The Crown took drama series category against some incredible competition. I haven’t started watching it yet, but based on the competition it beat out, it should be really good and something to start scheduling on Netflix. A big surprise was the love for Atlanta and star Donald Glover in the comedy or musical category. I actually haven’t heard good things about this series, but it seems to have the love of the foreign press association at least.

While the Golden Globes are not the most accurate prediction of who will be successful at the Oscar awards (whose nominations come out later this week), it does at least allow us to know what films and performances are worth looking out for.

For me I only like to know the animation film winner and I have to say I was torn between the nominations but I think Zootopia was a nice choice for the win.
