Roadblock (6)

Looks like the road to Wrestlemania…just hit a roadblock. YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Before champions collide at the grandest stage of them all, there was just one more event to survive. WWE Roadblock has just wrapped up, with matches that featured the Game, Dean Ambrose, NXT tag team titans and the dirtiest dynasty in the industry today.

Here’s what went down.

WWE Tag Team Champions New Day defeated Sheamus and King Barrett

Roadblock (2)

On one side of the ring, you have the most electrifying tag team in action today, the New Day. On the other side, you have the dastardly effective League of Nations, a cabal of some of the biggest bruisers in the WWE. Last night, the two teams went at it as Sheamus and King Barrett were gunning for the gold. The power of positivity was met with some early match control from the League of Nation members after the bell was rung, as Kingston’s speed fell prey to Sheamus’ power.

After a series of exchanges between the two teams, Big E and Kingston managed to lay some pressure on Barrett that ended up with a trombone in the face and the Big Ending finisher that allowed the New Day to retain their championship.

Chris Jericho defeats Jack Swagger

In full-on heel mode, Jericho berated the Toronto audience before Swagger arrived. A close match with plenty of two counts, Jericho would eventually emerge victorious after placing Swagger in the Walls of Jericho and earning a submission victory.

NXT Champions Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson defeated Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady

Roadblock (1)

Since October, NXT’s most heated rivalry has been simmering away as Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady faced the Revival numerous times in the ring. With a feud dating back to when the Revival almost demolished Big Cass with a targetted assault on his knee, payback was most definitely coming hard and fast. Last night’s NXT tag team championship match was a pure slobberknocker, as the two teams faced off for pride, glory and championship gold.

Dash would take the early lead in this bout, as the action between the two teams could have gone either way, but a double-DDT from Dash and Dawson seals the deal and makes certain that the championship gold went home with the current reigning NXT tag team champs.

Divas Champion Charlotte defeated Natalya

Figure-8’s, chops and punches set the stage for this match early on, as Ric Flair’s protege focused much of her attention on Natalya’s leg with various leg-locks. Natalya would hang on however, refusing to submit and throwing some of her own submissions into the mix. Neither lady waas ready to tap out last night, but some well-timed distraction from Ric Flair allowed Charlotte to drop a dirty pin on her, feet all the way on the rope, for the 1-2-3.

Brock Lesnar defeats Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper

Roadblock (3)

In life, there are only three certainties: Death, taxes and Brock Lesnar giving you a first-class tour of Suplex City. The beast incarnate has been on a roll as of late, dismantling legends and superstars alike. But at the Royal Rumble, Lesnar set his sights on the entire Wyatt family after they intefered with the main event and threw him out of the ring, ruining his Wrestlemania chances.

Last night’s match, was the kind of revenge usually reserved for villains in a Steven Seagal movie. Facing none other than the man of a 1000 truths, Lesnar  went to town on Luke Harper in a handicap match. Wyatt would remain out of the ring for the start of the match, as Lesnar immediattely took control and started shortening the lifespan of Harper.

Harper would eventually bounce back with a few superkicks and spinning clotheslines, but Lesnar’s patented suplex would even the odds again as Wyatt watched on. With seven tours to Suplex City locked in on Harper, Wyatt would decide to hightail it out of the stadium after Lesnar hit the F5 on Harper.

Sami Zayn defeats Stardust

In one of the best matches of the night, the high-flying Sami Zayn went one on one with Stardust, with the Toronto fans firmly in his corner. With incredibly impressive top-rope attacks, Zayn would eventually hit a big kick on Stardust and pin for the three-count.

WWE Champion HHH defeats Dean Ambrose

Roadblock (4)

With Roman Reigns out of action thanks to Triple H employing the deadly technique of smashing a face into an announcers table, it looked like the cerebral assassin was going to have an easy month or so to prepare for Wrestlemania. Not so, as former Shield member Dean Ambrose challenged the current WWE Champion to some one on one action.

At Roadblock, Ambrose and Triple H collided. Leaving nothing behind, the two superstars pulled every move out of their arsenal last night. Middle-ropes dives, big hands, steel steps, counters and Dirty Deeds. You name it, both men had it and used it. After Ambrise hit his finisher early on, it looked like there would be a new champion before Wrestlemania. But after losing on the three count because his feet were supposedly under the ropes at the time, a frustrated Ambrose would then stop at nothing to be declared champion, using everything inside and outside of the ring to inflict some damage.

Roadblock (5)

After going through the announce table at the very last minute however, Triple H would nail his signature Pedigree on the Lunatic Fringe himself, pinning Ambrose properly for the three count and retaining his championship in the process for the upcoming bout with his Wrestlemania 32 opponent, Roman Reigns.
