Smackdown Jan 10

WWE Smackdown Live took place this week from the Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Here’s all the action that went down.

“The Ambrose Asylum” with special guests The Miz and Maryse

Smackdown January 10 (2)

It’s Royal Rumble season! And just about everybody wants a chance to headline Wrestlemania in April, as the newly-minted Intercontinental champion Dean Ambrose kicked off Smackdown by announcing that he would be entering the big showdown with 29 other superstars. With that being said, Ambrose welcomed former Intercontinental champ The Miz to the ring, as the awesome one announced that he too would be in the Royal Rumble ring.

Hell, Ambrose might as well hand over the IC belt right then and there the Miz declared, referencing last week’s controversial finish to the title bout. Ambrose wasn’t keen on that however, and after some more banter the two decided to settle things the old-fashioned way: with blunt-force trauma to the head, as Ambrose sent The Miz scampering off and decided to gift Maryse with the Miz Participation award as a consolation prize.

Nikki Bella vs. Natalya ended in a No Contest

Smackdown January 10 (3)

Before the bell was even rung, these two were at each others throats as not even a fleet of security could keep Natalya from applying a Sharpshooter to Nikki outside the ring, as she left the arena with a definitive edge over her foe.

Kalisto defeated Dolph Ziggler

Smackdown January 10 (4)

Looks like Ziggler is playing heel once again after last week, as Kalisto wanted some sweet payback for the attacks suffered last week at the hands of the Showoff. Ziggler was as aggressive as ever, running riot all over the ring and Kalisto. But the luchador pulled in a last-gasp effort out of nowhere, which only infuriated Ziggler even more as he decided to introduce his competition to the business end of a chair.

Attempting to save his pal, Terry Crews also ran straight into a chair-shot, as a vicious Ziggler ended the night with the symphonic sound of a con-chair-to.

American Alpha defeated Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton

Smackdown January 10 (5)

2016 ended with American Alpha being crowned the newest Smackdown tag team champions, defeating the Wyatt Family to gain a momentous victory. Last night however, Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton were back for a rematch and they’d brought Luke Harper with as an insurance policy. The gamble didn’t pay off however, as Harper accidentally distracted Orton and gave American Alpha the chance needed to score a quick roll-up pin on the Viper.

Things only got worse for Harper afterwards, as a confrontation with Orton resulted in Bray getting knocked down, leaving both of his followers in hot water with the eater of worlds.

Daniel Bryan announced first SmackDown Women’s Championship Steel Cage Match

Smackdown January 10 (6)

There’s no love lost between current Smackdown champ Alexa Bliss and her rival Becky Lynch, but it seems that none of their matches so far can be held without some form of interference in the ring. To settle the matter once and for all, Smackdown GM Daniel Bryan declared another showdown between the two, this time in a steel cage match that will be held next week.

Carmella defeated CJ Lunde

Something something James Ellsworth. I think this story has run its course already on Smackdown. NEXT!

John Cena defeated Baron Corbin

Smackdown January 10 (7)

This was a weird match, because it looked like Baron Corbin was being beaten senseless by some strange invisible force in the ring. Lol, you can’t Cena jokes. Back on track, John Cena tangled with the Lone Wolf of Smackdown for the first time ever as AJ Styles watched on, with the Cenation leader earning a hard-fought victory over Baron Corbin.

The match over, the show was finished for the night as Styles and Cena locked glares in the ring, a sign of things to come when the two will clash for the WWE title at the upcoming Royal Rumble at the end of the month. And that’s all folks!
