Smackdown June 27 (3)

WWE Smackdown LIVE took place from the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California. Here’s all the action that went down.

The Usos defeated The Hype Bros

Smackdown June 27 (4)

The first match of Smackdown kicked off with the return of the Hype Bros to thechampionship scene, as they clashed with current title-holders The Usos. Alas, their dreams of becoming tag team champs was not meant to be as Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley’s rhythm quickly found itself derailed by Jimmy and Jey. The champs retained their titles, but it was the appearance of The New Day that resulted in a war of words.

The big news here? That The New Day would challenge the Usos again for the belts, at WWE Battleground near the end of July.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi defeated Lana

Smackdown June 27 (5)

Lana might just be the luckiest lady on the Smackdown roster, as she managed to work her way into another championship match against Naomi last night. That luck ran out in the actual ring though, as her fierce attack on the champ simply wasn’t enough. With a Split-Legged Moonsault that put the Russian down for the count, Naomi left the ring with her championship secure for at least another night.

Randy Orton caused chaos and called out Jinder Mahal

Smackdown June 27 (6)

The Viper is out for blood, and only Jinder Mahal’scrimson will satisfy his thirst. RKOing the hell out of Aiden English so that he could have the ring to himself, Orton grabbed a mic and made his intentions clear: He wasn’t going anywhere until Jinder Mahal appeared and gave him another shot at reclaiming his WWE Championship.

SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon eventually appeared, attempting to reason with Orton. Mahal eventually did appear, incensed at Orton’s threats to his family. TLDR? Mahal was going to give Orton a taste of India with a championship match that hadn’tbeen seen in more than ten years: A Punjabi Prison match at WWE Battleground.

Baron Corbin defeated Sami Zayn

Smackdown June 27 (7)

There was some crap involving Maria and Kanellis with their power of love schtick, that Sami Zayn mercifully interrupted before he faced Mr Money In The Bank himself, Baron Corbin. With a golden ticket in hand, the lone wolf of Smackdown was a reborn threat as he caught Zayn in mid-air and planted the End of Days on the underdog to score a big win. All of this, while Shinsuke Nakamura watched on from backstage…

Carmella won the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match to become Ms. Money in the Bank

Smackdown June 27 (1)

With James Ellsworth banned from ringside, it was time for the Smackdown Women’s Money In The Bank match to be restarted as Carmella found herself having to earn the case properly. That she did in fact, as a dazzling display of top-rope athleticism from Natalya, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Tamina saw the match constantly shift momentum.

While Ellsworth would of course make an appearance in an attempt to save Carmella, he was quickly tossed out of the ring by Lynch, who was on fire that night. Carmella had the final say however, injuring Lynch and introducing her to a steel chair that gave her the time she needed to climb the ladder and retrieve the golden briefcase again.
