You don't know Jack in this first trailer for JACK THE GIANT SLAYER

Fe fi fo fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman. Hi Basil! Moving on, it’s been a year since we last got a glimpse at Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer, which since then, got a slight renaming that leaned more towards an awesome heavy metal band.

And here’s a new trailer that’s arrived, to fill us in on the tale ahead, complete with obligatory romance and some adequate CGI visuals. Is the golden goose that New Line Cinema has put their faith in?

It seems that as menacing as the giants are, they’re merely the muscle behind the ambitions of Stanley Tucci’s Lord Roderick, as he abducts Eleanot Tominson’s Princess Isabelle in order to spark a war between mankind and the behemoths in the heavens above them.

Cue a rescue attempt from Jack (Nicholas Hoult) and Sir Elmont (Eleanor Tomlinson), and the story starts to build up some steam, as it barrels towards a showdown with the two respective sides.

The film definitely has an epic scope attached to it, but nothing really stands out here. It looks too safe, and besides MacGregor obviously having fun with his role, it doesn’t exactly look like a film that will be remembered years from now.

But hey, I could be wrong, and we’ll just have to wait until March next year to see the final result. Jack the giant slayer also stars Ian McShane, Warwick Davis, Eddie Marsan, Ewen Bremner and Bill Nighy, with Ian McKellen on narration duties.

Hmmm.. Looks like it could be a good romp. Operative word there being “could”.

Also, am I the only one that feels that Ewan McGregor seems to be channeling some of Cary Elwes’s Robin Hood from Men In Tights?
