Have you already peeked at our list of nominees? If you have then you already know that voting and selecting our number one Game of the Year for 2010 was not an easy decision for the Lazygamer crew.
Talk about a list of powerhouses, we all know that only one can take home the crown. Who will it be?
Here are the nominees for our 2010 Lazygamer Awards Game Of The Year :
Mass Effect 2
Red Dead Redemption
Starcraft 2
Heavy Rain
Super Mario Galaxy 2
And the award goes to:
Winner: Red Dead Redemption
Today, the cowboy gets to ride away into the sunset as Red Dead Redemption takes our number one spot as the Lazygamer 2010 Game of the Year. A huge story mode, with a great story, tons of fun to be had, great looking visuals and amazing versus as well as co-operative multiplayer are just some of the reasons that Red Dead Redemption comes out on top.
Rockstar have delivered the complete package with Red Dead Redemption and one that is a must-play for anyone who dared to ever call themselves a gamer. The decision was further strengthened by Red Dead Redemptions availability on more than just one platform as well as one of the best DLC packs of the year, Undead Nightmare that eventually put it on top of its main rival, Mass Effect 2.
Rockstar prove once again that they are one of the big boys and even when it was predicted as a complete failure, Red Dead Redemption was quick to the draw and able to make its mark on 2010 as the best of the lot.
Runner-Up: Mass Effect 2

Fantastic choice, well deserved. Spent about 40 hours on this game (only 2-3 hours was for MP). Even getting 100% completion didn’t feel like a chore, this game was an absolute pleasure.
Want to get the Undead Nightmare pack soon and get into the MP side of things.

I guess RDR is the obvious and fair choice, but since I’ve yet to play ME2, I don’t think I can be too objective about it though. I’m just curious as to why Reach didn’t make it onto the list? No other game has demanded as much attention and dedication from me this year, and none has been as rewarding, continually welcoming me back with new challenges, not to mention utterly engaging, fresh and fun MP. Or am I just old fashioned?

Die Jason summed it up perfectly. Very deserving choice for GOTY. My only real minus for the game is the borked MP (upon release, haven’t tried it since). Undead Nightmare is a lot of fun though.

Dear lord I still have to get around to playing RDR. I really thought ME2 was onna walk away with it, but I think that RDR gets a broader appeal because its on more platforms (for now)

Well deserved, I don’t think there will be any arguments against that, its GTA but in the wild wild west, absolute gem of a game

I thought this would go to ME 2.
Alinens vs Cowboys and looks like the Cowboys won.

As one of the biggest Mass Effect fans I have to agree totally on this decision. I think RDR just had the total package.
You know it’s a great game when you can think 6 months or 1 year down the line and pick single moments in the game that totally gave you goosebumps.
For instance the soundtrack when you head into Mexico for the first time walking with your horse and a sunset going in the background totally made me think I was in the Wild West.

I have ME2. Anyone wanna swap (permanent or temp) for RDR? I feel like taking on a serious single player campaign.

No doubt about it! This game deserves GOTY. The Mass Effect series was my favourite gaming experience until I played this.
When that Jose Gonzales song starts playing at a certain point in the game, man…. goosebumps just thinking about it. It was perfect! They couldn’t have nailed the atmosphere of that moment better!

I loved this game, I easily put more time into this game than any other game over the last 2 years… I think I’m going to get back into the co-op levels this weekend.. if my ADSL comes back to life that is.

I haven’t played Grand Theft Horse yet … I just don’t enjoy the new GTA titles, so I’m afraid it’ll be like those :/

Reach was good, but we’d seen it all done before. And you are a unabashed Halo fanboy, so it would resonate more with you than others 🙂
RDR was just an amazing breath of fresh air. And the production values on everything, from start to finish, was just exceedingly high.

Right. So when are we playing this again? Nick and I did that 1 round of Undead Nightmare MP and then never again. This needs to be remedied.

I have to say, this took me by surprise.
After ME2 basically took everything else,I thought you
guys were definitely going with that 🙂
But I TOTALLY agree on this one.(This was miles above GTAIV.What a bunch of crap that was.Thank God there were no cellphones in the Wild West  )
ME2 was great, but this game was just pure joy to play.

I don’t agree with the fact that you took DLC and platform into consideration when deciding your Game of the Year. Look I don’t mind that RDR won even though I prefered ME2 better, I just think the game of the year should be judged solely on “what’s in the box”.

Finished Undead the other night , now still have to do the main Red Dead campaign. It is great but Heavy Rain is my GOTY.

Wow, so many people here thinking the same as me. Deep down I wanted Mass Effect 2 to win, but we all know that RDR was just deserving of it.

What was srsly groundbreaking about RDR? GTA in the desert…I enjoyed it but there were a lot of better games released in 2010.
Bayonetta certainly raised the bar of hack-and-slash combat, so many innovations over what’s currently out there it’s not even funny.
