For some strange reason, we have had a couple of occasion’s where our comment threads were completely hijacked by readers who had the need to argue over which controller is better, The Xbox 360 Controller or the Sony Dualshock.

Well, the folks at Nextgg.com have put up an article that states 5 reasons why they think that the Xbox 360 controller rocks.

The five reasons, in summary are: The triggers, the weight, the body size, the headset option and the name. You can check out the article by clicking here.

Do you think they have a point? Or do you think that they have completely lost their minds. Give it a read and then let us know if you agree or disagree and why.

  1. This is something that will never go away, i think 90% of it depends on your hands and it makes perfect sense:

MS make controllers for obese Americans who are used to holding big-a$$ cheese burgers. Hence the 360 controller.

Sony make controllers for the lightweight japanese who are used to eating tiny noodles with chopsticks.

Now we sit in the middle, my hands are small so the XboX controller doesn’t work for me at all. People who have big hands will struggle with the SixAxis.

The 360 controller is also compatible with the PC which makes it a wireless PC controller 😎

I’m a PS3 owner, and sadly, I couldn’t agree more with these guys. The 360 controller is the best. I bought one for use in my PC too.

I’ve had many consoles over the years and the two best were the Gamecubes and the 360, both just seem to work wonders, the PS design my hands actually started to hurt after extensive gaming. But the Gamecube and the 360 controller I could go a helluva lot longer. I think it’s also the slightly more ergonomical shape.

I’ve been playing on the Playstation’s since it was first released. (PS1)

So for me, the 360 controller is big and clunky.

The 360 controller is very comfortable, but the PS3 controller feels more responsive to me. And don’t get me started on the pathetic d-pad on the 360 controller.

Both have their pros and cons. I play with both of them, I don’t really prefer the one above the other.

I suppose the only real preference you would have, one over another, is the size. The other things, you’ll get used to

    I concur.

I have small hands. Smaller that most but using the Suxaxis triggers for racing games makes my hand really sore. It’s like you have to contort your finger is totally unnatural positions to get to those spawn of satan triggers. The 360 pad for racing games is an absolute blessing.

Size is a factor, but I’d add 2 things:
    1. Build finish. The DS3 is a good, but the SIXAXIS is terribly built even compared to the DS1 & 2.
    2. The triggers – The triggers on the DS3 and SIXAXIS are aweful.

    3. PS3 D-pad is definitely better, the one on the 360 barely less than cosmetic 🙁

Yep the 360 controller overall is by far the best, ive always disliked the shape of the PS controllers and DS 3 is no different, im not sure how much of a roll size plays in ergonomics i just find the ps controller uncomfortable like they never really took the shape of a persons hand into account, gamecube control def takes second.

I disagree. I have girly hands and ill buy a PS3 if you can make the Xbox 360 remote work with it.

But why would we want to do that when we can use our 360 remotes on the pc???

Does your mouse and kb give you rumble? 🙄

Most 360 ports like Lost Planet and Gears are best enjoyed with a joypad 😉

what makes The PS3 controller feel more responsive huh ??? the ps3 controller has sharp edges unlike the smooth design of the Xbox 360 controller which is way more comfortable. my thumbs used to get sore after playing long hours with my PS2 controller which is basically the same as the PS3 controller but the xbox 360 controller…no problems at all the only thing that hurts after playing the 360 for like 9 hours is my head from headaches which I bet most people get now and then

I can play COD4 for 9 hours straight on my PS3 controller and not feel any discomfort… I can’t say the same for when I had an XBOX… It’s all down to personal preference and your hands… My hands are small and I prefer the lighter controller…. 😉 Different strokes for different folks

I say it depends on what you’re used to, each to their own. Personally I prefer the Xbox 360 controller weight and size but then I’m not a little kid whom I believe the PS3 is really intended for. -ducks from flames-

However the D-pad really does suck!

Why is people on about the D-pad? Other than weapon selection in some games it is not used at all? I don’t think I have played a single game where I had to use the d-pad… and that goes for my ps3 and 360 controller.

While i rate i have average sized hands, i totally agree with the 360 controller at number 1 and the gamecube controller at number 2 – though i never particularly liked the d-pad on the gc controller either… (hours of capcom vs snk with mates always left my thumb aching)
In general though, they are still by far the most comfortable for me 😀

It all comes down to preference and all points which make either controller are highly subjective.
Personally I prefer the PS3 control, the xbox control feels clunky and cheap!

hehe, the ps3 controller feels cheap to me – its just too light and plasticy (should such a word exist)- kinda like a toy you get out of a christmas cracker… each to his own ey 😉

(preparing to stop, drop and roll ;P )
